kerryI was born and raised in Smiths Falls, a small town near Ottawa. I have two sisters, one niece, two nephews and now two great nieces and two great nephews! My family is the most important thing in my life, followed closely by my friends and my community. My parents were always involved in the community and helping others. They taught us all that volunteering and giving back is just expected.

When asked for a “coming out” story I always say “I don’t have one” because I was never “in”. I knew at 12 who I was and had the good fortunate to have a supportive and proud family. I moved to Ottawa in the early 70’s to be part of my community. I have been working with various groups ever since. As far back as the old GO (Gays of Ottawa) and the Board of the then newly formed PTS, to creating the Lesbian Information Xchange with my friend Marie Robertson 10 years ago, and now OSPN (Ottawa Senior Pride Network). I volunteered with Mario and the group for five years and then moved on to other things. When Glenn Crawford asked me to help this year, I knew it was something I would like to do again. I am thrilled to have the skills to contribute, and happy to work with the folks from Swirl and Twirl—some I’ve known forever and some I am just meeting.

I was there for the first five Swirl and Twirls and after taking a break, I am anxious to contribute to this excellent event again.
